Stickshift station wagons and minivans....

Hi y'all! Quis here, graduate student in chemistry, going for my Ph.D....

My first beloved car was a stickshift 1983 Toyota Tercel hatchback... my mom also had a stickshift VW Rabbit. When that died, she got a 1987 Toyota Camry stickshift station wagon. In 1991, we got a stickshift MINIVAN that was mistakenly shipped here instead of somewhere else from Japan! And now my mom's got a stickshift Pontiac Vibe, my stepdad still has his beloved minivan, and I have a nice little 2000 Toyota Camry, a stick, naturally. So basically, all my family has ever owned are stick cars.

I've found that driving a stick helps you immensely. I've had to drive in Europe (an old 1989 Czechoslovak Skoda, EEK!), and it is just so convenient to know how to do it. Plus, it saves gas and gives you more speed control and power control. I love all of my miscellaneous stickshifts!!!!

Whoa, this is like the second cross over person on my flist! I think I've seen you in either [info]chemistryinfo or [info]lab_gripes. So you're a chemistry geekgirl and stick driver. Mind if I friend you?

well I'm not chem, per se, more structural biology (which you can probably argue is applied chemistry)

Same here, apart from one thing. My stepdfather recently got an auto Primera after I wrote off his stick Corolla. He doesn't really care what's in it, because he's been using manuals ever since he first started driving, like my mum. My biological father has an auto now, but he's more of a manual guy, but on two wheels. He's spent most of his years with manual sequential gearboxes riding motorcycles.
